I think what he's saying is the cancer cell functions autonomously. The host dying would mean that its food source was gone; this would be the same for a virus or a parasite, all of which would die too.

Watched it in 3D at the BFI IMAX in Waterloo (London, UK). I thought the 3D was VERY well done; used appropriately when it added to the scene but otherwise kept to the background so you could appreciate the film without distractions.

In Sneakers they machine worked via some kind of backdoor that made existing encryption systems obsolete. There's no reason why such a machine couldn't be small on size.
