Second best new character? What about Dr. Brenner? He was awesome! He was just trying to contain the upside down, and was actually a good person. Even though he was government, he subverted our expectations and helped everyone, and especially Bob.

Talking about NuTrek, we saw the uniforms that were worn on the Kelvin, which is set around 20 years before Discovery, and more importantly is set in the Prime Universe at the start of the movie. Those uniforms were very much in line with TOS.
