I mean I'm OK with playing grind-heavy RPGs and don't need a flashy battle system to keep me interested. That's a nice list, but you could do that for most RPGs. "Diverse characters, side quests, mini games..." you're just padding your list at that point.

It's a fairly big name RPG, so I can't agree with the premise that it's never discussed.

It gets seemingly one topic a month on Kotaku, and I rarely see any negative comments. Someone here called it a "masterpiece."

Never got the love for Suikoden 2. The first one was ok, nothing spectacular. 2 was just...boring. The battles were completely unimaginative. No interesting gameplay aspects. And I can trudge through a grindy RPG, but this series is probably the most overrated RPG series there is.
