The takeaway for me—as it has been many times before—is that the whole enterprise of trying to single out the best performance or the best film or the best screenplay is arbitrary and kind of juvenile—it’s akin to something that I think that most of us would hope that we would have otherwise grown out of by high

I was kinda sorta pulling for “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings.” I knew it wouldn’t happen and I’m not a big fan of the genre usually, but I loved hearing it for the first time and damn if that song was stuck in my head for weeks afterwards. At least they got to perform it.

Since we’re all commenting on a feature about diving into various Wikipedia pages, I’ll go ahead and recommend reading the page dedicated to the photo, called “VJ-Day in Times Square,” complete with a section dedicated to the disputed identities of both the woman and the man featured in the photograph:

Paltrow: (excitedly) “So am I going to be getting a Rescue solo film after Endgame? Maybe a trilogy?!”

Last season was a bit of a slog at times, but that trailer just puts a fine point on it: Damn am I gonna miss this show when it's gone.

Can we have a Patreon or bake sale or whatever to subsidize AVC’s coffers enough for them to hire him back full time? Of all the post-Kinja indignities to befall this site, his leaving was the fucking worst of the worst.

Interviewers often ask questions with obvious answers. Sometimes it’s because they’re vapid or haven’t done their research. Sometimes it’s to initiate a conversation. I’m pretty sure that in this case that it was the latter.

Yeah, and he plays that part of the clip at the very beginning of every episode.

The Dems have been plagued by unforced errors and own-goals for so long that it’s depressing, if not surprising, to see every election cycle how little they’ve learned since the last go-around.

I’m imagining him using the “insane supercomputer” voice from the first bit that he does at the beginning of “My Weakness is Strong,” where he accidentally texts his wife “I hate” in reply to her text saying “I love you”:

Holy fucking shit. The Dazzler and Tigra team-up alone made me take notice, but a show centered around M.O.D.O.K. with Patton Oswalt in charge and its focused on how the big head “struggles to maintain control of his evil organization and his demanding family”?!? I’m being punked, right? I’ve died and went to some

The very next article that I see in my little AV Club scrolling feed is a story about how Indianapolis is getting a donut shop with a dragon theme. I want to believe that this was intentional, and it was some lowly editor’s noble act of defiance.

“Must find place to avoid pop culture discussions . . .”

Just yesterday I was reading about how Freddie Mercury was a huge cat lover. Apparently he dedicated his first solo album to his four cats and “all the cat lovers across the universe—screw everybody else!” He ended up with ten cats total, and in the video for “These Are the Days of Our Lives” he’s wearing a vest with

“Any former child unlucky enough to stumble across Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark books back in their youths...”

Oh yeah, I agree. I was using an old snowclone that used to pop up in a lot of AVC comments sections. A member of the commentariate would jokingly take a quote out of context from the story on which they were commenting and add “The A.V. Club” after it, indicating that the comment (often somewhat ironically) applies

“(Never read the comments.)

That would be great! In the meantime—in case you haven’t seen it—the Trevor Nunn-directed adapation is one of my favorite productions of one of my favorite plays, with an amazing cast in its own right:

Didn’t she also put the donuts back—and other people bought them? Regardless of that, she also said, “I hate America. I hate Americans” during that same incident, all of which was caught on video. I’m no jingoist, but I marvel that she bounced back from that at all, let alone that one rarely hears about it now that
