Complacency. The reason it’s still talked about is Complacency. If you don’t hear it, odd are (from lots of data in aviation and medicine) you will get complacent.

Agreed, this is a case where doing the polite thing is actually the less safe thing.

Training fine, but an F-15E is not a CAS aircraft in anything but the most dire of circumstances. It’s WAY too fast, it’s way too piggish when slow, and it’s a hell of a big target.

Except the Soviet’s learned what happens when you rely on helicopter CAS in a real shooting war.

Among other things, they can’t even shoot their guns.

F-15E CAS? really? I was almost buying it until then. No wonder they had to pull the A-10 out of mothballs.

The engines are part of why it works so well. I’m sure you could put a more efficient engine on it like something off a newer CRJ or something, but you won’t get much more speed, and you have to deal with a lot of supply chain adjustment.

They have AIM-9's on them now. But you always have to have some level of air superiority to have CAS.

NO, we never needed the Air Force. Happ just glad handed his way into the good graces of the post war anti commie money leaking government as part of the creation of the Military/Industrial Complex. Because when you really want to throw money away in the private sector for no return, you go to the Air Force.
