Speaking of which, the trial of the cop who shot the kid 16 times in Chicago has been going on for two weeks now and will probably go to the jury shortly. Yet nobody around here has run a story about it in a week and a half. Howcum?

I wonder how much of the southern propensity for dueling was because they fancied themselves heirs to the aristocrats of old England, while the less pretentious New Englanders  were mostly from trading and small farming traditions? Even so, were British gentlemen still dueling during the 1840s?
