I’m thankful that my staunch Republican grandparents watch CNN. They are plenty paranoid, but not to that extreme.

My husband’s father just passed away and his last few days (when he was on some heavy medication) were filled with ISIS, anti-Obama, anti-Muslim, pro-Trump, Fox News all day rants. He had been hiding his things too and accusing his wife and daughter-in-law of being pro-ISIS because Fox News told him so. I completely…
Well put.
I knew people with enough paranoia about the banks taking their 401k’s (which they kind of did), and CEO’s raiding pensions, etc., etc., - relatively run of the mill stuff, but when they found Fox News, it all became about the liberal snowflakes that are too soft to stand up for anything other than their own stupid…
Really sorry for your loss.
For Mayweather’s sake, I don’t know why you even bothered to write anything down.
The signing of such a high-profile contract is bound to have its detractors, but I am not one of them. Congrats to the whole Deadspin staff on this momentous occassion!
There are food buckets in my father’s house because of Fox. Also water in the garage and ammo under the bed.
this is pretty much my parents right now.
This is really sad. I’m sorry you (and so many other people) have had to experience this.
It frightens me to the bone to think that there are people who are like 25 right now who may not recall their lives without Fox News spewing hate, paranoia, outright lies, and racism into their ears EVERY day. People who aren’t old, but who will live for another half a century. Thank Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch for…
Same. It destroyed my relationship with my dad and (here’s the kicker) I was a conservative at the time when it happened 10 or so years ago.
A quite brilliant summary of a despicable man...
Take comfort in the knowledge that Ailes died witnessing his last great work, the Trump presidency, go down in abject failure.
Excellent post.
Agreed. The “don’t speak ill of the dead” crowd forget that Ailes was an objectively terrible human being with no apparent redeeming values.
As the late great Pratchet said about Vorbis: “…the worst thing about [him] isn’t that he’s evil, but that he makes good people do evil”
To a lesser extent this is my father. You’ve hit the nail on the head - Ailes did irreversible damage to our democracy through fearmongering. I hope he goes down in history as the Goebbels of our time.
Brilliantly written. I too have older relatives whose minds have been corrupted at a fundamental level by a steady diet of FoxNews. It is sad to see.
