Our perception of a car has a lot to do with noise, particularly I think the high frequency more grainy noises of tires on the road and mechanical engine noise. It would be easy work but time consuming to add sound insulation to this but it would improve the perception a lot.

In the olden days base models of Big 3 sedans were also shockingly unequipped. Example I am familiar with: 1958 Chevrolet Delray/Yeoman wagon. In that chromey trim bedecked year for GM at least it didn’t have the Cheapskate Dad black rubber around the windshield and/or rear window like previous years of any base car…

Once you get it rolling you still have those stick shift gears to provide whatever gear reduction you want. The trade off in lower highway revs should be more than worth it.

In case anyone is unfamiliar with places like southern Arizona, what rain there is comes in summer thunderstorms. A few years ago NJ increased its gas tax to normal levels and the gas there isn’t cheaper any more.

The underlying problem is that this Valiant isn’t equipped with a Torqueflite. Heck, probably no Full Time Power Steering either.

Maybe they can find a nice PT Cruiser.

Something like this may happen anyway as car makers just don’t develop any new IC engines. If one company does end up with one that’s better and cheaper other companies might just buy or license them instead of coming up with a new version of their own.

As a long time owner of a 1990 TransSport with a mysterious tendency to drain its battery that no one could find out the reason for, I had one of those. They were sealed lead-acid batteries, and the more recent one I bought has USB ports for powering a computer or charging a phone, plus an air pump and LED spotlight.
