Also the plastic cladding on the original makes for a nicer rocker panel shape. But they did lose 3 inches of ugly front overhang fat with the facelift. 

In the pre-facelift Trans Sports the battery was right in front under the hood on the driver’s side and easy to get to. I don’t know where it went when 3 inches were removed from the front overhang. I don’t see it in the Craiglist photo.

I doubt that the two generations shared much other than possibly front or rear suspensions. The original was spaceframe with plastic body panels and the second one was a unibody, and wheelbases and every other dimension are different.

Maybe use a hair dryer all over for quicker drying. And of course heated seats are more important with leather than with cloth upholstered seats.

The previous Forester had a one-mode X mode. The current one (and I assume the platformmate Impreza/CrossTrek have multi choice version like a junior Range Rover. I’m guessing something like that is on other similar vehicles?

By the way, Hoovie’s “Wizard” guy has a YouTube video on this engine (not sure which series) where he replaces some other plastic tube (a little one, not the manifold one) with a metal replacement, and maybe a couple other improvements on trouble spots. He rates the engine highly in general like everyone else.
