By the way, Hoovie’s “Wizard” guy has a YouTube video on this engine (not sure which series) where he replaces some other plastic tube (a little one, not the manifold one) with a metal replacement, and maybe a couple other improvements on trouble spots. The job of any modern society isn’t to make decisions based on preserving jobs doing things that are no longer needed. It is, for more “socialist” types anyway, offering to help redundant workers in finding and training for jobs that are expanding.  

Not just the engine/motor but the automatic transmission vs some way to make them back up.

I suspect that a lot of perfectly fine looking cars will be dead in ten years because of the failure of some computery bits that cost more than the car to replace.

It’s probably complicated by whether you are counting assembly or the labor hours of each one of thousands of parts down to a nut or bolt, most of which would be done elsewhere. But everything in manufacturing takes probably 20% of the labor it did in 1960.
