Oh man, I wasn't even thinking of John Hawkes. For some reason, I'd envision him as a villain in the "Justified" universe. He can play grizzled, down-home, dangerous-looking characters very well, as we saw in "Winter's Bone." And of course, Olyphant vs. McShane always makes for a fun encounter.

I did enjoy Sam Elliott, but man, Ian McShane as Avery Markham. That would have been orgasmic.

Those White Walkers better watch out. He won't need no fuckin' knife!

Considering the pantheon of "Deadwood" actors that appeared in the show, that was especially sad.

I'd give anything to see Fiennes perform onstage, especially in "Coriolanus." He really did do a perfect interpretation of him, as you said. The most notable person I ever saw perform in a Shakespearean play was Denzel Washington as Brutus in a Broadway production of "Julius Caesar." This was probably ten years ago,

Well this was enlightening, intensive, and very comprehensive. I liked it a lot—in fact, I'd say you make a fine TV critic. Anyway, I guess I'll focus on Declan for now. We know the ups and downs his character goes through throughout the series, his trust in the dichotomy of good and evil, and the "system" gradually

I think Pizzolatto has previously said that he doesn't intend for "True Detective" to be a long-running series. Chances are he was only going to do another few seasons anyway. I'm pretty sure they're going to be making a third, but with the icy reception this season has gotten, maybe Pizzolatto is starting to wonder

That's certainly one, though the drinks I've heard are nice.

It's nice to know that Cuban detective is a legitimate backup career plan. There are worse things one can be.

Someone in the commentariat first mentioned this show in a "Black Sails" article, I believe. Looks very cool. Though if you put Tom Hardy in a situation where he'll possibly be beating the shit out of people, chances are I'll like it regardless.

For some reason, Forrest's lines of "ohhh, I know, I'm sorry" while Marisa was yelling at him for being fired came off as especially hilarious.

"Crazy Heart" was good, but "Out of the Furnace" was remarkable for its mediocrity, despite its great cast. Here's hoping Scott Cooper actually does this film justice.

I think it'd be "fackin' qweeahs." Looks good otherwise.

Hey Decko, would you mind telling me what you were gonna say in your first paragraph? I think you got cut off. And no, I'm not about to label any artist a failure after one year, especially with how good that artist's first majorly-noticed work was. HBO has already said that if Pizzolatto wants to do a third season

Martinez's score really makes the atmosphere. You'd think it'd seem anachronistic, but it just enhances how alien everything seems to us from our present perspective.

I still remember Thackery's first monologue, where he says that there have been so many advances in medicine, people can live until age 45 or something. *shudder*

And it's working.

The Knick AND Fargo coming back in October?! That's gonna be a swell month, lemme tell ya.

Fiennes's delivery of the famous "I BANISH YOU!" line is tremendous, he looks so hysterical at that point and is almost spitting with each word. Great cast overall, though I thought the "citizens'" performances were a bit lacking. But yes, Redgrave was fantastic and really enhanced the intricacies of her and Martius's
