This post really made me roll my eyes.

William: And I need to thank you for preaching. After reading your post I tried Netvibes out and fell instantly in love. Needless to say, it's replaced my Google homepage and will be the first thing I see on the net for a long time to come.

Uh...you don't need to burn a disc image in OS X to access its data—just double click on it in Finder.

You know, the WSJ criticizes the poor language of blogs in the most foul style and repugnant prose. I do believe Alanis Morrisette would call that ironic.

rodsherin, you obviously don't smoke and thus don't know what the hell you're talking about. Nicotine is a heavily addictive drug—I remember reading about a study that claimed it was more addictive than opiates—and smoking produces a physical dependency. No amount of pop psychology self-help with clever acronyms is

I agree with William; the Internet is way too addictive and I need to get off it more. Unfortunately, I have an enormous amount of work to do (I'm writing a book and doing a PhD at the same time), so I doubt the alternative will be "life".

Okay, people aren't being as juvenile as me, so let me expand.

Anyone who thinks messiness is a good thing is a complete moron.

I love the cloud—diagrammatic search engines are nifty, and I wouldn't mind if Google implemented one. However, that must be one apalling search engine if a search for music comes up with "jazz" and "american roots" as the only genres. There's slightly more to it than that, and what a wonderful education your child

Downloading and paying for this is kinda like buying the Lifehacker book; it's expensive and a waste of money while there's a free alternative (in this case, Automator and Folder Action scripts).

I must have the wrong personality for this blog. I found this post patronising, insulting, and annoying. Apparently I'm the only one.

trai_dep: I won't even ask why you didn't just ask him to leave, then call the police when he didn't.

Sorry, I'm an idiot; there are single monitor versions as well.

These are for dual monitor setups, which is nice—I've never seen that before. Not too good for single monitor users, though.

Warning: this program can REALLY REALLY mess up your system. This stopped Quicksilver, Endnote, and a few other programs from opening on my system. Be warned: this program is buggy as all hell.

D'oh sorry, I misread! My stupidity!

@Jade

I can't believe you left out MovieLens.

My personal rule is "no using the computer after 8pm" of weeknights. I find that it takes my mind about 2 hours to wind down after a full day's work.

I suggest reading at the library. This forces structure into your life, and gives you access to other books while you're reading, so if you read something odd or interesting, you can cross-check it by walking a few feet. Also, the library's a great place to meet chicks (or guys, I suppose—dunno lol).
