That sucks. I have 2 years/30k miles worth of no-more-aggravation-than-a-contemporary-BMW out of mine. At 135k now.

It’s at least two pieces, maybe three. Obvious seam at B-pillar. Maybe another at the top of the A-pillar.

Umm, the first handful of Model X’s were delivered a few months behind the slipped-by-two-years schedule. It took another 3 months before they finally started delivering some volume.

I’m certainly no in love with it but they would be smart to lock it where it is now and worry about updates for 2.0. They have no time to be screwing around.

It’s not really a choice yet. You’ll be able to complete a 3 year lease on a Bolt before you can actually acquire a base Model 3. The Model X has been shipping for 6 months and not a single base car has been delivered as far as I can tell.

Despite all the hand-wringing, as a 45 yo Gen-X’er, I’ve found that the 20-something Millenials I personally know are all pretty hard-working young adults with their heads on straight. I’m in graduate school with “kids” young enough to be my own and, frankly, they seem to be more serious than I ever was at that age.

That’s an appealing soundbite but if you spend some time on the teslamotorsclub forum, you’ll find that Tesla parts are EXPENSIVE and worse, they limit who can buy them. You are tied into their service.

I’m not sure I believe it either but a friend of mine drove a mutual friend’s MP4-12C with an AWE exhaust AND a 458 back to back and felt the McLaren sounded better. He preferred the Mac overall.

This is essentially how ours started (on ferrarichat): “Is there any interest in a C&C next Saturday at The Grove?” “Don’t ask, just announce. I’ll be there with some friends”. 10-12 cars came the first time. Now 40-50ish, which is a perfect not-too-annoying-to-everyone number.

That stuff really happens? You need better “friends”. And a better C&C.

I don’t know if people are crashing them at an unusual rate but the repair costs people report are astronomical and parts availability can be a problem. Maybe so, but is it a rational aversion? How often do these scary broken-down-on-the-side-of-the-road-omg stories really happen with a well cared for, modern, smartly purchased (known to be reliable) used car?

I don’t think that really characterizes the response to Tavarish “buy X for Y money” posts. My criticism is that he never honestly addresses the potential downside. How many times has your wife been broken down on the side of the road? My wife drives a ‘91 318is. It has never left her stranded. If it did break down, our insurance covers towing so she’d only be slightly worse off than in a new car. I’ve only had to call a tow truck one time in 27 years - for my old ‘01 XJR.

That’s been my guess. Or fuel economy/drivability is absolutely horrendous.
