You are incorrect about the WRX STI engine in Japan. Yes, it does not use the EJ257 like the US spec cars. However it does not use the new FA based 2.0L (like this car seems to do), it uses the EJ207. That motor is also the same as prior generation STI in Japan, the EJ257 is a variation of this motor for the US.

Japan does get a 2L STI, but it’s a 2L version of the old 2.5, not a hot version of the new 2L.
