There is a difference between a performative gesture that at best did nothing to help black activists and showing support for black activists. While the black Instagram boxes were superficial gestures, it’s not a great look for Feiri to show no support during the George Floyd protests.

The controversy:

It doesnt destigmatize mental health to look at this man and his actions and say “he must have a mental health disorder”. It actually stigmatizes it worse because people start to think “mental illness = act in a criminal manner”.

It is not his mental health status as much as its the way that status is used to dismiss or diminish the crimes of white people.
