It's because it's not as clear cut as you make it out to be, and lots of people make the same mistake that you make when making distinction between acronyms and initialisms.

I've thought about that. I imagine Microsoft tried to buy them, Sony, Samsung... who knows? But they only accepted the one that shared their vision of the future of VR and agreed to let them have independence. I'm glad for that, even if it is Facebook.
I feel like if it was truly appealing then people wouldnt've cared. I just don't think 3D TV at home was really appealing for many people. I know I couldn't care less.
