"why is THIS okay but THAT is not?"

I love the irony of how the "cool kids" in high school ALWAYS grow up to be the boring, conformist, dissatisfied, super-uncool adults. The "uncool kids" much more frequently become the sort of edgy, independent, self-leading person that makes a truly cool grown-up.

They did tone it down, but they didn't get rid of it like they should have done. Typical Honda-itis. Typical Japanese business sense. NEVER admit that you made a mistake. Better to go down with the ship than admit you were wrong. You can see this everywhere in their culture. The Fukushima disaster is probably the most

This is very true. It is not necessarily the girls' fault. The society here is really stacked against them for certain things.

It muse be nice living on an island where there is no traffic. Here in the US the narrow, 2-lane highways are littered with trucks, motor homes, and other slow-moving vehicles. Passing chances are limited and you often have to get around two or three vehicles at a time. Usually, my passing technique is the only way.

What's amazing is that it manages to be bland despite having Acura's corporate "parrot face" which makes most of their cars distinctive, even if that distinction is due only to hideousness.

Yea, holy shit! That was Russian Dash-Cam level craziness. Mao's nonplussed reaction very much added to that flavor.

I found it interesting that it seems to be predominantly females doing this. Here in the USA I feel that young boys would be much more likely to get up to these sorts of shenanigans. Very cool.

I... What!?

"a lot of intended teen pregnancies emerge out of those feelings of purposelessness, isolation or lack of control."

He earns a salary that, arguably, makes him the most underpaid executive in the entire world. 400 grand. That's NOTHING for the amount of work expected from the POTUS. Corperate fucksticks like Bob Nardelli are paid tens of millions of dollars just to run their companies into the ground. Nardelli was paid $240 MILLION

Exactly. Kids who get thunked down in front of the TV may not have dramatically worse behavioral problems, but it definitely makes them dramatically more stupid! I've babysat more than a hundred different kids over the course of nearly ten years. The ones who's parents had them on a constant TV regime? They where

Doing a study on trying to link extended TV-watching to behavior problems is a practice in completely missing the point!

+a billion on that one.

So, so many of my friends are like this. Way more than half of them are men. This has been my personal experience since, hell, high-school and it has been so pervasive that I seriously don't consider "shop-aholic" symptoms to be a female 'thing'. Perhaps it is because so many of my male friends are geeky; obsessed

Well Gillette, if there's one thing female stereotypes are more drawn to than a clean-shaven man it's a clean-shaven man who is also environmentally conscious. Too bad your products are disastrously disposable to the point where they are practically designed to fail prematurely. With this in mind I will carry on

Let me guess: he looks something like this.

That's only a little casual smile. No other dog can grin like a happy pittie.

I have not heard of this exact practice, but it doesn't surprise me in the least. I am exceedingly familiar with the uses and benefits of "therapy dogs"; especially the unconventional examples. The benefit you bring up for children works almost exactly the same on the elderly. Attentive, emotionally-engaging dogs can
