Which is kind of hilarious when you consider that CIS is basically a mechanical injection system (with numerous electrical items tacked on to control emissions)

With older cars we're starting to see numerous issues to to bad grounds (due to age and corrosion). I recently fixed one old VW Cabriolet by simply putting a jumper to the ground. Two shops couldn't diagnose the problem.

Sturdy station wagon wasn't it?

Obligatory family truckster image.

Reminds me of the early days of electronic fuel injection. Opels had carbs until '75 and when they showed up with Bosch L-Jetronic the Buick dealers were totally beside themselves. Every problem resulting in a replacement of all the injectors ($100 each) or the ECU ($1000). I taught myself the system and started

These are mounted this way to allow easy access during the not-unexpected servicing of the electrical system. If you know things are going to fail you can at least make them easy to replace.

We should start a rumor that they left one Vette buried in there.

Only $3000 at current bid.

"I got it! I got it! I got it! I got it! I got it! "

Wondered when the rest of the world would see that. I posted it to Oppo yesterday!

I started reading LifeHacker about 8 years ago and have always loved it. Unfortunately I found it was a gateway drug leading to me becoming a hardcore Japolnik and io9 contributor. And I wouldn't have it any other way :-) Congrats on 10 years!!

You'll find rally crews are good at napping as well. It's drive 13 hours to the rally,, grab 3 hours of sleep. Tech the car, get another hour. Start the rally and drive and hour to the first service point. Wait an hour or two until your car arrives. Then drive to the next stop. Sleep until you car arrives. Rinse

It was actually 39.5 inches but that didn't look good on the marketing brochure.

After having attended and crewed at several years worth of rallies I had perhaps gotten a bit jaded. However that was renewed when I walked up the rally course to find a good shooting position and found a nice intersection with no one at it except for a lone course marshal. I asked him when the cars were due through

As the Sheriff says, "it's Tuesday" (I'll not spoil the most chilling art of the show)

Actually I should have mentioned that it's not the kind of coma you wake up from either. Dead or gorked. Your options are limited.

From the study..

Actually you'll fall into a coma but probably not die. Emergency rooms in the early 90's realized they were seeing more CO poisoning that didn't result in death. Turns out the auto industry had finally gotten CO emissions reduced to the point it's really hard to kill yourself that way.

You are being watched. The government has a machine...

To be fair only the center lamp turned.
