There’s no doubt that the majority of existing cars in the future will be scrapped. Even ones that could considered desirable will be crushed simply because of the inability to make them functional. It’s a shame. It’d be interesting to see the actual cost of energy management to make a car and its parts from A to Z.

I’ve been pondering about this and came to a sort of quandary. In the same BMW situation, I know someone who has an early ‘90s BMW and was fixing a leaking window seal. But when he mistakenly removed the windscreen first, and then looked for parts, he found that BMW doesn’t have any in stock. Not even in Europe. So

Yeah, it’s an old trick. If it ever became illegal to lie in some way, one has to just follow the money. Especially in the case of the API which is composed of some of the most corrupt people in existence.

Peter Thiel, honestly, you have to stop lurking....

Jon Bernthal, same guy who played Lee Iaccoca in Ford vs. Ferrari. Looks very close just needs the right accent and voice pitch.

We probably passed each other in the pits. Was Gerry Weigert there with the Vector? My favorite was when Pete Lovely came down with his Lotus and they ran that and the 917/30 at the same time...

Ah, good ol' Riverside. That was a crazy track...the esses......

Hey, the Russkis stole the toilets off the ships they captured from the Ukrainians so apparently it’s really worth all the trouble after all......

American Petroleum Institute troll. Paid to annoy and disinform. It’s their favorite tactic and No.1 in their playbook.

Absolutely, and what cars do OEMs make that even justify doing it on a routine basis? If we look at it just from a MSRP cost perspective, every car in the last 10 years that costs more than 100k should be on the list? It’s tough call. Imagine if BMW had to do that with their last lineup. Whoobooyy, that’d be a mess...

Yes, but all the more interesting, yes? After all, it’s a Nazi product co-opted in order to prevent a re-Nazification. In any event, the comment was really a shot at the Yugo, not a government thing. And really, I don’t count the government vs private thing as applied in Germany (whether then or now) as being the

Like the VW Beetle?

Counterpoint : VW Beetle.

VW did it with the Beetle; there’s a huge global ecosystem for that car that’s been around for many decades even though the car is not fabled for going faster than 100mph, or has rich Corinthian leather seats or is a quiet as a church mouse or is as efficient as an EV. Every continent has a bunch of Beetles being

Miatas getting it done. Vehicle enthusiasts drive that trend. Better and more interesting cars from the get-go would make it more viable. Also, there’s no absolute need to have OEMs do it; restoration/modding companies have been doing it for decades. It’s just that no one wants to bother with doing it on a Ford Pinto

Is it this place or Kinja or both? Methinks both. Percentages, who knows? But commenting is definitely a dumpster fire....

It depends on the car and manufacturer, doesn’t it? Pretty sure, the people who wanted a restored Pinto are close to zero since the value of a restored Pinto is close to zero. OTOH, let’s say Shelby American/Ford had been setup to do this. Does this mean that an original GT-40 that has been factory restored (maybe

Geez, Torch, that’s a terrible title. It’s not like the Czech communists are the only kind of people to do this. Mazda does it with the Miatas. Ferrari does it with their cars through Officina and Maranello. Aston even built new DB4 GT chassis. The US Army does it with the M1 Abrams. The US Navy does it with NG F-18s.

It’s hard to believe that there’s enough players who are into it to warrant a 6th! Not that it’s a bad game, it’s actually pretty good up to the 3rd ed. I don’t know anything past that other than there were some pretty big changes after GDW passed on to Jackson. I wonder what Marc Miller thinks of a 6th? It’d sure be
