It’s sometimes an annoyance when pet owners use the language of parenting to refer to what they do: calling pets the “grandkids,” talking about their development or extracurriculars, and so on. It feels like an appropriation that doesn’t hold up in the particulars of parental obligations versus pet ownership.

To be fair to your take, the game is 8 years old. For me, at least a part of the reluctance is that I no longer have the time for online games like I did in 2012 or even 2016, and there are a lot of more recent options.
