Thank you.

Yikes.

“Gotta love the ole’ “I have no more time for this conversation.” I’ll accept that as a concession.”

No, the game having a competitive scene does not mean it’s higher quality than a game without a competitive scene. Even if we limit our set to “games that can be single-player or multiplayer,” the list of games considered great would still include Civilization, Paradox-based strategy games, Total War, Endless Space,

You can cherry pick games that are great and also have large competitive scenes, but there are also many games that are great that don’t. Super Mario Bros III, Super Metroid, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII, Civilization, Homeworld, and (yes) Age of Empires II.

I feel like Steam is going to push yet another game of Crusader Kings II on me.

People are saying First Knight, but Sean Connery was also in Sword of the Valiant, the laughably bad Green Knight adaptation from 1984, which makes First Knight look so much better.

I think it’s very cute.

I don’t believe the quality of a game can be assessed by the quality of its competitive scene. Many great games don’t make great expert-level competitive games.

I don’t see what’s wrong with appealing to kids.

Nice try

Yes, you missed both jokes, and it whooshed by you.

Just to highlight how this kind of inequality lines up with other forms of inequality, I’ll tailor one of the quotes from the article to apply to another situation. Changes in bold:

Something predicted in the future can’t be a fact. You, too, are a joke.

It was old years ago.

People are curious, and that’s cool. We need to teach them to be more thorough when they investigate something.

I bet it involves growing to double your size for the purpose of bonking.

Photographs and memories don’t have souls either. Nor do paintings, statues, or death masks. At least in my tradition, most things don’t have souls. I only see that as an issue if the creator insists the VR representation has a soul.

All of these conditions that psychics use to operate are not true for VR. You wrote a lot to admit, finally, that psychics are lying. People who create VR are not lying about the status of the creation.

In this case, the mother seems to have benefited from it.
