Assembled in Michigan. Most of the parts are made in Mexico, the engine in Germany (from a Mazda design), and the transmission in Spain. The cost of shipping already baked in to the car on the lot.

Unless battery technology advances by about 300-500% in the near future in terms of density, you’re not gonna see anything notably smaller and compact than a Tesla… An EV needs to be large (and heavy)
