I was really surprised at the large number of women of all backgrounds that had worked, not just at Langley, but at all of the NASA centers, starting in 1935 with the first computing pool and going on until the 1980s.

If you are really interested in that photo and the story behind it I highly recommend reading Masur’s Soiling of Old Glory. Amazing book that reveals so much about the picture.
