@MercuryPDX: Actually, my current price comaprison is wrong. Zillow says in the past year home rates have gone down 5.3%, making the graph VERY grey (Renting is better)

Before I bought my home I rented a 3 BR apartment for $825/month. The rent went up $50 after a year. My mortgage payment on my 3 BR home is $837 a month. I've been here for close to seven years, and don't plan on moving any time soon. In that time, the house has gone up close to $80k.

And as an FYI, if for some reason you're using IE and fail the "Genuine Microsoft Product" check required to download some of the templates, or don't want to deal with it, you can surf the site in Firefox and download w/o the check.

@B1663R: Just a note... [activate.exe] is what activates/registers the software. You're supposed to run it after install. If you don't run it before midnight, you get a trial version of whatever is being offered. The Readme file in the zip will always have directions on how to make the software registered.

@vered & @wenno: That's the secret- Small steps to prove its value. Emergencies requiring you to stay in the office late, weekend work, or getting a 2AM "Drive in and fix this" call offer you great starting points for the discussion. Phrase the payoffs as client/company related "wins" and not "It would be cool to

Mine says I can save $257 a year by stepping my plan down. It's using an atypically light month for comparison, but I like what the site does.

It's the same thing that was in the Vitamin Water at Consumerist:

Sounds like a neat way to make some reusable grocery bags.... now I just have to learn how to crochet. :/

I signed up with Saavy Circle when you guys pitched it and I've been very happy with it.

@Gina - Every time there's one of these survey/drawings, the winners are never announced. Can we break the mold with this one?

I use the Iron method to get candlewax out of carpet. Set it to medium, and iron through a triple folded paper towel.

I have a TV and the computer in my Bedroom. Neither seems to keep me from sleeping, but I'm an adult. The article cites in being a problem in your children's bedrooms, and there I would have to agree.

Actually, my friend "Ambient Crisis" posted a great rant on his site yesterday about "being flexible" that echoes my sentiments (with much more anger).

@prospero: I can work from home and it's a double edged sword. While it's great to code in your underwear while watching daytime gameshows, having "nobody looking" can kill your productivity.

I have to say as a Web Developer, flexible hours. As is often the case in "salaried" web and software development (at the companies I've worked at), this is where some major gripes emerge. You're expected to stay late or work a weekend to meet a deadline, but heaven forbid you show up at 10 AM (Instead of 8AM) when

@BMRFILE: I also agree. You should be aware of what's going on at your company, pay some attention to the rumor mill and watch for warning signs:

YES YES YES! I can stop looking in the bargain bins for used copies!

Having witnessed the heartbreak of someone being fired, and having to abandon an entire collection of MP3s, photos, and software (That all should not have been on a Work Computer in the first place) I've carried a USB drive with all my stuff on it ever since.

@SeanOHara: Just did that this morning. Turns out my "prank caller" was the Qwest Autodialer.
