Key the Metal Idol actually aired on KTEH public television in the SF Bay Area.  I remember it was one of the weirdest anime I had seen up to that point.  Amazing music!

I think there was both a four episode OVA and an a movie version, and it was even on DVD in the states somehow despite all the Harmony Gold stuff!
