The whole thing is based on characters from Asian fables, folklore and stereotypes. It has originally been made for a Japanese audience by a Japanese Mangaka (duh). How could anyone have the audacity to assume that the characters could not look like American teenagers, right?

If wonder if it could've been made "realistic" without making it look "Hollywood"? Not a single character looks even remotely Asian to me (not counting Shen-Long).

My mother, of all the people, won a Philips CD-I back when it was new, including MPEG cartridge and The 7th Guest. I knew adventures from my C64 and DOS PC already (Fate of Atlantis, I miss you), and my mum has been hooked to adventures and puzzle games ever since.

I had that for my Atari 2600... including the numeric pad it came with for extra commands. I had no idea what the game was meant to do and the commands for the numeric pad made no sense whatsoever to me xD

The copyright issues aside, these look great, and I thought about getting them. But $220 for plastic figures that probably have a material worth of less than a dollar? That's not Japanese publishing houses specifically, but Japanese companies in general, due to a extremely acidic copyright laws in Japan. Nintendo trying to forbid livestreams of their games comes to mind, for instance.

So, I do wonder - what about pure "slice of life" Anime? I would usually put them under Seinen, but Seinen only mentions "Let's see how dark and/or bloody we can make it" Anime. Slice of Life is mentioned under Josei only.

So what about (the fantastic) Space Brothers, or Silver Spoon? Stuff that just depicts everyday…

I love shows that make me think, that have some meaning behind them - Ergo Proxy comes to mind, or more recently A Blast of Tempest or Shin Sekai Yori.

I've got someone with exactly the same voice type of voice in my FFXIV guild. I love listening to that guy.
