Asked and answered, your Honor :) Here’s what I told another person. http://jezebel.com/1788126452
My experience with psychiatrists is that they aren’t thrilled when they *havent* heard of something, and their patient is jazzed about it. It’s as if anything they haven’t heard of must be quackery.
Such a hard situation. His presence is devastating, but so would be his sudden absence. I don’t think any of his slander will stick, though. I think it is obvious he is coming unravelled, and nobody thinks it’s truly your fault. Just get through the flames for now, and things will fall into place.
If you ever fall off the wagon, maybe give “The Sinclair Method” a try. It’s totally secular, and it has a 78% success rate in Finland, where it has been adopted enthusiastically.
I’m getting sober with the “Sinclair Method”. I’ve been talking to someone else about it, so you might benefit from reading my comments from yesterday on my discussion page. With the Sinclair Method, there is no need to go to meetings, and actually, it required that you not be abstinent, at least not at first. I’ve…
Gabor Mate simply rocks- he’s so full of insights. I found his explanations of the neurology of addiction particularly helpful; for some reason, I find it soothing to think of the brain as a physical entity, subject to the laws of nature like any other organ.
Oh, here we go, I found it: http://www.yourbrainonporn.com/internet-sex-addiction-treated-with-naltrexone
It’s hard to answer if naltrexone does anything for me on the porn front because I’ve been abstinent from it for so long. I’ve read a case study, though, about a dude who finally got some control over his porn problem with naltrexone. I can’t find it, but man, that dude had a WAAAAY bigger porn problem than I did. …
You tend to have pretty nuanced comments. I think the people who sometimes get pissy with you are 20-year olds who still see everything in really black and white terms. Like you aren’t a *real* feminist or something.
I heard a guy say once that in terms of addiction it wasn’t “Mission accomplished,” but “Mission accepted”, and with that I agree 100%.
I *would* be a fan of Antabuse if only it worked for people. It works about as good as any kind of aversion therapy ever has, which is to say, not very well short-term; and not at all long-term. The only thing good about Antabuse is that it can be really good for helping someone get some clean-time under their belt.…
The thing I like about TSM is I don’t need to join a support group, go to rehab, or abide the thought of never having a cold beer again. With the Sinclair Method, I can keep my recovery to myself, and I can still have a drink with friends as long as I have my naltrexone to block the endorphin rush that used to make…
I used to be able to have just one glass a day, and then it gradually plateaued at half a bottle for a few years. In recent months it turned into three quarters of a bottle to satisfy me. Who knows how long it would have been before it became a full bottle every evening.
I used to drink about three quarters of a bottle of wine a day. Now, it’s less than half a bottle. This is after 2 weeks of treatment. It’s really slowed down how fast I drink that quantity, too.
If he gets wasted while still taking his pill in the appropriate manner, he’ll probably eventually see results. It works differently for some people. Read this short testimony by someone who has seen it work in weird ways for people: http://cthreeeurope.com/2015/02/21/introduction-to-the-cure-for-alcoholism-by-claudi…
Lol!
Have you tried using Naltrexone? I’m getting sober using the “Sinclair Method” and it’s turning my life around without a lot of effort.
In case you don’t see my comment to Sipowitz, you might want to consider the “Sinclair Method”. It’s painless, and doesn’t require abstinence. I decided to try it after hearing it had a very high rate of success, and my drinking has been decreasing without any real effort on my part.
