That sleeve is for transportation, not protection. I am using, for over a year now, a DIY carboard box as a laptop protection case and it served me well. Skype has great videochat and can provide a phone number (although not free, indeed), you can block callers. Tje voicemail transcript is the only thing you mention that is not present, which is not for me an AWESOME feature, it's more like a cool feature.
