The fact that the protagonists (especially Bashir) come right out and say that S31 is a betrayal of Federation ideals should have been enough of a response.

While it was a pleasant surprise, it also increased my annoyance that movie, a reboot so they wouldn't have to maintain continuity, kept having scenes that only make sense if you've seen the older series and movies.
