Some of the best free art education on the internet is through Twitch. In particular, anyone interested in working as an artist in the game industry should check out Dinusty’s twitch.

Yeah, long term the Epic Game Store probably means fewer launchers, not more, as it (and the changes it will hopefully pressure Steam into making) reduces the incentive for publishers to build their own custom launcher.

I suspect you’re right. There’s an oft repeated story (I’m not sure if it’s actually true, but it’s part of the Disney design ethos) that in the early days of Disneyland, Walt came across some workmen fencing off a grassed areas because guests were cutting across it and wearing a path through the grass. Walt yelled at

While they do dispense with the base-building side of things, Steel Division and Ultimate General: Civil War are fun RTSs from the last couple years.

Will they? If you’re a small indie, you’re not getting many people discovering you on Steam due to the platforms terrible curation. And if you’re a big player, you don’t need people to discover you on Steam (which is why EA left, and Activision and Bethesda appear to be leaving). If you’re somewhere in the middle

I suspect Steam’s terms of service don’t allow devs to offer lower prices on other platforms, but I could be wrong.

It’s enough better of deal for devs to tempt devs into releasing exclusively on Epic, or at least giving free DLC to people who purchase it through Epic.

I think there’s an important distinction between “cell phone” and “smart phone” that’s getting glossed over. Giving a kid an old school voice-and-text only phone is both logistically convenient and harmless.

Board games are great, cheap fun. Sure, the games cost some money, but even if you only play a game two or three times the cost per player per game normally falls to a couple bucks. And many game stores have free or cheap open gaming areas if you don’t have the space or inclination to host friends at your home.

I don’t think she was ruling out salads as an option, just expressing an understandable distaste for making a meal out of a side salad that’s nothing but lettuce and dressing.

Plus food suppliers will happily sell product at cost to food banks, so they can get a much better deal than you can.

That being said, this is addressed repeatedly in the first two paragraphs of the article.

Not even really “used to”. Using “queer” to mean “strange” sounds a bit dated, but you’ll find plenty of cases of the word still being used in that sense.

I don’t think there’s a built-in way, but seems like it’d be a pretty easy script to write.

It’s better than the web resolution 800*1200 that is the norm from many museum web sites. But yeah, it’s not the best either.

Liquitex acrylic medium definitely isn’t the same as water and glue. For some projects water+glue might work, but for others it really won’t. If you care about what your art looks like in twenty years, definitely stick with real art supplies unless you’re really sure of what you’re doing.

While the percentage of gamers recruited into far right hate groups is, of course, very small, I have no trouble believing that a substantial percentage of members of far right hate groups were recruited through games and game-related communities.

Massive (The Division), Dice (Battlefield),Paradox (Crusader Kings), THQ Nordic (Darksiders), Avalanche (Just Cause), Machine Games (Wolfenstien), Funcom (Age of Conan) to name a few.

I’m not sure, but I suspect Sweeden has the highest number of AAA game studios per capita of any country in the world.

If you look at studios in Nordic countries, where all overtime must be paid at a higher rate, they somehow manage to produce good games with very little crunch.

The more general version of this is that people who have cool jobs, but aren’t exactly famous, don’t get much/any fan mail. If, say, your Frozen-obsessed kid wrote a letter to a lead animator at Disney, you’d probably make their week and get a lovely response.

Not really the case in any rural areas. It’s only urban/suburban gun nuts that reliably vote Republican.
