Trebek’s philosophy isn’t about the spirit of the game, it’s about what makes better Television. The spirit of the game is win as much money as possible.

Their POV used to be to mock those in power, but after carrying Obama’s water for 8 years they gave that up.

Before television, people would go watch double features and newsreels + shorts all the time.  Theatres were basically giant TVs that people would watch for hours.

I can’t get over how much his performance in Jupiter Ascending owned.

As long as the economics support it. When you think of films as widgets instead of art decisions make a lot more sense.

Magnolia had a fake Seduce and Destroy informercial + phoneline.

I’m not watching it if Louis CK isn’t in it.  I’m also not watching it if he is in it.

Fight the real enemy 

I loved Baron Cohen when I was younger but now that I’m older I do feel he is mostly taking advantage of a lot of people’s desire to be courteous and polite and it leaves a bit of a bad aftertaste.  

Someone (here I think) pointed out that it’s actually meant to be unhappy/ironic. Given the way AIs work on Black Mirror this seems to be true, and the shots of the robotic arms during the end credits makes me think that’s what Brooker had in mind.

Can you believe there’s another Robin Hood movie coming out in a couple weeks?

The series’s legacy will be economic/business related (the series that established Netflix as an original content player) and it will leave zero artistic legacy.

If the only value the Bling Ring has is pointing out young people / celebrity culture is shallow then I’m glad to have avoided it.

It seems completely forgotten, that’s a reasonable guess as to why.

Yeah the problem used to be there was not enough content available, now the problem is there’s too much content available and we have no idea what’s worth spending time on. A movie release + decent reviews is a major signal that it’s not complete trash.
