It’s pretty clear it’s sexual assault according to the law in California.  It’s also not something I’m going to be upset about.  It’s not even about gender.  It would be consensual in most states and it’s clear the guy was shaking her down.

Do you disagree with my assessment?  Logan is pretty clearly a western with classic western tropes.  That’s why people are connecting to it beyond the fact that it’s well made and features characters they care about.  I like Logan but it’s no Unforgiven, and it’s no Bergman.

It’s basically an amalgam of True Grit / Shane / Unforgiven.  I don’t have an encyclopedic knowledge of every western but I’m sure there’s some western with the basic plot Mercenary gun slinger escorts a child and does the honorable thing when tested.

Some of the worst scifi is didactic “THIS IS REALLY ABOUT X” scifi.

Making my way through Disenchantment. Show’s got enough of a strong base to be a long run hit I think despite not being perfectly formed out of the gate.

Good Sci-Fi usually live and dies on its ideas, which is what makes it interesting more so than what truths it reveals. Fantasy I don’t really like so yes.

That’s because it’s a classic Western story just using Xmen.  That’s their new trick, remake old films and tell the same old stories using established IP.

I agree with Hawke honestly. Movies as art at their peak reveal great truths about humanity. Making a film basically about modern day gods makes this near impossible. The best superhero movie was probably the Dark Knight and it was so good because it resembled a traditional crime film and features only actual humans.

The forces that lead to Palin and Trump were already well in place. Perhaps McCain accelerated things with the Palin pick but he was responding to the fact that the Republican base was not behind him and needed someone like Palin to get them to the polls.

I’m enjoying it. It’s unrealistic to expect peak Futurama out of the gate. It’s got great potential in the universe. The core three characters are not great yet but I think they will improve. I’m in for the long haul.
