I really enjoyed these articles Todd. I haven't seen The Sopranos in a while, and your writeups make me look at the show again in new ways.

@HobbesMkii:disqus Good point, getting punished just for having shit ideas does sound like something that would happen on TTOI. It did really feel like a farewell episode to me, but maybe I'm just conditioned by other shows. We'll see soon enough.

I don't always get the political machinations of the show, but the current government is to blame for that whole affair right? What role would she play in the inquiry?

Murray's exit did make me think of Gus's fate (though any doomed character might fit I guess).
Both realize they're screwed when it's too late, but get an exit that sums up the character perfectly (Gus straightening his tie - Nicola walking the wrong way after her resignation).

I dunno, if a cult leader who just had all my friends brutally murdered told me I had to kill myself to prevent the world from getting destroyed by the fist of an angry god I'd probably take it with a pinch of salt.

They could do that I suppose, I just thought it makes more sense the way they do it in the book (actually torture them in the village). I mean, if they're gonna move the scene to Harrenhal, might as well change the dialogue to something more relevant. Maybe feed us some exposition on the BoB.
I like how there's no pop-up for Harrenhal in the intro. Those gears must've melted in the dragonfire as well.
I like how Ken is totally unimpressed by the punk scene, but he actually seems to enjoy himself at the end. Daniel probably could've as well if he hadn't gone in thinking he's already a part of it.
This is awesome.
What a guy! What a career!
Great read, he sounds like a funny, charming guy.
Great read Todd. Good to see a showrunner being so open about his intentions and what he perceives as the shows' strengths and weaknesses.
I haven't watched Deadwood in a while, but just thinking about Sanderson's Farnum can make me laugh.
I guess he can stick out a bit because he has the most overtly comic role in a pretty dark show, but I never really considered his performance weaker than most. I couldn't imagine a confident Farnum to be half as funny.
I'm Courtney Love, baby!
Who the hell are you?
Clark Johnson also used the 'viewing the characters through (surveillance) cameras' technique here that he did on The Wire. I can't remember if he did that in the previous episode he directed, but I think it works well on this show.
