I bet they’re doing this because of the upcoming movie, wanting to make sure anyone getting bit by the WoW bug from seeing the movie goes to official servers. Although we can hope it’s because they’ve finally decided to open their own progression server.

Daybreak, not Sony. That aside, Daybreak runs their own progression server while still being super cool about letting project 1999 exist.
