If they continue to work in / address the whole Ava-is-a-clone-and-some-emotions-are-still-short-circuiting bit this season, this take on Ava’s response works a lot better.

What a perfect litmus test.
While Dinah has been iffy for me as well in various iterations / timelines / combinations-with-other-characters, I liked her here. She and Not-Laurel had a fun **** Moms vibe going, so I think it could work.
Which is interesting because much of that scene between Veidt and Manhattan felt VERY Doctor Who-like to me. From the blocking, to the ‘console,’ to the dialogue spouting ‘advanced supernatural science.’
This comment actually saves it for me. I was with some other commenters in not liking the ending, I just saw “oh no they’re going to have to try a clever ‘so funny it’s painful / so painful it’s funny’ gag at the end, the harder ending would be to just have him walk out, they’re going to go for a twist and cap off 20…
I took that line about the contracts as something like “when buying CatCo I took over your contracts, which you had recently re-upped for three years, and with a non-compete clause for the duration. If you are out of the journalism game for three years, it will effectively kill your career.”

I expected a lot more Meta Acknowledgement Jokes, referencing recasting, and children growing too fast, and different actors for Mateo 1.0 and Mateo 2.0.
But maybe they have to kill her, in order for her to go on the rest of the afterlife hijinks with the other four!
I know this is late [a few years, and at least one whole AV Club Comments Revamp late] but . . . I’m curious about you saying “though Philip is [using Paige] to a lesser extent and feels worse about it.”
I was of the opinion Philip was using Paige to a *greater* extent, and also felt worse about it. Elizabeth used to…
I think he let Don and Madison get away with it because they just generally do, in real life and noir. The corrupt Sheriff is never going to straighten out, the spoilt rich girl is never going to face consequences.
