Yes. Dear fucking god, yes. That site is a parody of itself.

This seems like a good time to say that the word 'problematic' is now my least favorite word. It's a word that people can throw around in a multitude of situations, and it just totally fails to mean anything at all.

You're saying that you fail to see a difference between Japan being responsible to China for its actions barely half a century ago, and Benedict Cumberbatch being individually responsible for his granddad's decisions 300 years ago?

Huh! I didn't know they had actually apologized. Shame on me for not knowing. So good on Japan for that. I don't know how you measure a nation's moral contrition, though.

Survey says: not a fucking chance.

It's a close question, but I still think that, despite a regime change, there's value in a nation's apology if it's close enough in time to the event. It's by no means a perfect analogy, but if Japan decided to apologize to Korea (fat chance), it would be like George Wallace denouncing segregation after championing it

A good argument, but on balance I think Japan is still pretty much the same place. As time goes on the case for it apologizing gets less and less good — the same way that it probably doesn't make much sense for the Visigoths to apologize to Rome.

Ah, but Japan does not equal Benedict Cumberbatch. Nations are different from individuals. I think Japan is still on the hook to Korea and China for all the atrocities it committed there (good Lord, did it ever — do most people even KNOW what went on? Anyway.). But Japan is a nation. It hasn't ever died. In form and

For Chrissake, someone actually asked for your thoughts, and all you did was post back a complaint about white people. Fail.

I'm not talking about ethics. I am talking about morals — his apology has no moral authority if he is not the one who perpetrated the wrong. E.g., you get hit by a taxi cab. I, living thousands of miles away from you, apologize that you got hit and promise I feel terrible about it and it won't happen again. My apology

Nope! He's not. He can if he wants to, sure. But his ancestors' actions have literally nothing to do with his. An apology from him would be meaningless. Why should we care if Cumberbatch feels especially bad about his family's slave-owning? What does that actually mean, if he didn't own the slaves? He doesn't have the

I had to go look up what the 'r-word' is.

I am incredibly unimpressed by virtually all of these examples, other than the "White Man's Burden" one.

I do not deny that these people are morons. But isn't that what Twitter is for — for morons to be morons on it? I don't think this is anywhere close to the majority opinion.

I guess I agree with him that it just seems so senseless and, yes, stupid. A giant talent like Hoffman and he got a bad batch or took too much or whatever, and he's gone, and for what? It's just senseless and stupid beyond imagination.

Let's not feed the trolls, everybody.

This guy is a troll. Do not feed.

I give all my stuff to the local women's shelter. They need a broad range of stuff — money, food, clothes, whatever you've got. They've never turned anything down.

The nice thing about raising minimum wage is that you're immediately giving more money to people who are guaranteed to go out and spend it and put it back into the economy, as opposed to raising wages for the rich, who will save and invest it. Can't blame rich folks for doing that, but it's not economically desirable.

You're a mortician? THAT IS SO COOL.
