I think at this point it is for BOTH groups: fans of the team to vent their frustration and help purge their systems, and fans of other teams to bathe in the schadenfreude of it all (at least, until it’s your team’s turn up at bat) 

When I worked at Subway in high school (20+ years ago), some of the meats (ham, turkey, roast beef) were sliced in-house at each location I worked at with the rest (salami, pepperoni, bologna) being pre-sliced.

It’s not up that “early” - it usually drops on 12:00 midnight, Greenwich Mean Time, meaning 7:00pm EST the day “before”. They did drop it one hour early for today, but if I recall correctly, Season 1 usually dropped on Thursdays at 7:00pm EST
