The book wasn't particularly dark though. Some Poirots are, but not this one really. Overall the books tend to be more like puzzles.

Unless the school is an incredibly fancy private school (and even then, it depends) public schools pay their teachers better and therefore attract more highly-qualified teachers. I'm guessing the parents mentioned in this article aren't sending their kids to private school for the teachers, though.

You’re getting a lot of pushback in the comments but I agree with you. It certainly is curious that almost all relationships with age gaps involve older men and younger women. If people don’t think that’s a reflection of creepy patriarchal values in our society, I think they’re in denial.
