Socialism is great ... on paper. Living in a world with finite resources and no (current) means of subverting that limitation, socialism will always fail and end up in situations like communist-era Russia, China, etc. Yes, it may take a generation or three before the inevitable fall to one form of oligarchy or another.

Of course, the difference here is that the general population has pretty much zero recourse to hold police departments who fail to properly discipline accountable for doing so.

I know a few homeless people in PA who hunt (illegally because of stupid “seasons”) for what meat they get. Typically wild turkey, small mammals, and some net fishing (it was really cool to learn how the nets are made). Typically they used traps and some hand-made bows which was really awesome.
