That’s probably the most hamfisted reason to dislike this game I’ve seen. Or does your sentiment extend to every game that remotely “glorifes” war?

As I roughly said in a comment in the original post about the trailer, it seems to be a variety of things, ones that aren’t mentioned in this post. The dislike of the sci-fi setting does seem like a kneejerk thing, but the trailer really doesn’t bring much to the table, even though this game apparently does do some…
Yeah, I forgot, they used the Gary Jules cover from 2001. But that version, unlike this cover of Space Oddity, actually sounded good. Unless there was some legal reason (and if there was, then use a song that isn’t garbage), there’s no reason they couldn’t have used the original Space Oddity. I think they could have…
I don’t know about the message behind it, but atleast they used the original “Mad World” and it fit very well. This butt rock cover was completely tasteless, and flat out ruins the lyrics.
2003? Try 1999-2000. This sounds like it could be a Creed song.
I feel like a lot of the backlash wouldn’t be as strong if they didn’t use such a shitty cover of Space Oddity. They had no problem using the original “Paint it Black” for Black Ops 3, so what happened here with using this corny butt rock version?
“They’re deserved here more than ever, during the continued ascension of an insanely unqualified presidential candidate whose core platform is anti-immigration, while his wife is an immigrant, his mother was an immigrant (Scotland), and his first wife (Czechoslovakia), too.”
Uh, she was japanese in the anime. Her name was japanese. She was born and raised in Japan. Never once is there any allusion to her being non-japanese.
Yeah, probably. Someone in these comments mentioned she was designed to look ambiguous, according to old manga notes, and it fit in with the plot. She looked quite different in the anime, and more consistently asian/eurasian. Same goes for the material from the past few years too.
No, they don’t. The anime/manga art style is ultimately ambiguous, and is built on things like less detail and an emphasis on eyes for exaggerated emotion, and the concept of neoteny, which is also where ambiguity really comes in.
Haha, are you serious? Look at the profile shot a little more carefully. Or look at any other profile shot of Motoko, particularly from the trailer of new anime movie. Or really most any shot of Motoko. Scarlett’s nose is much longer, her lips are bigger, her eyes are deeper-set and her brow is bigger... yeah, not…
They really are supposed to be though. One of the main characters has a japanese name and is specified as being half-asian. Every single other character has a german name and are meant to be white.
“The funny thing here is that Anime and Manga rarely depict Asian features accurately”
Because it’s ultimately ambiguous and not meant to portray specific ethnic features.
It doesn’t look white either.
“Motoko’s body is not actually human, it’s fully a prosthetic. More to the point, it’s also supposedly a mass production model in-story,”
Maybe in the original movie and manga, but not the anime. She strongly resembles how she did as a child.
“They rarely display more traditional Asian features, like almond shaped eyes, and my apologies if this offends anyone but a “flatter” face.”
They don’t really do the same with European features, like more projecting noses and deeper-set eyes either. Probably because the lack of details and the exaggerated neoteny…
“There’s also the fact that Motoko herself actually prefers models of bodies/faces who’s ethnicity is ambiguous, according to the creator’s notes in the original manga.”
Yeah, in Hollywood. I don’t think the general perception of Lucy Liu is much better than the asian one. She really is not attractive. Devon Aoki just looks strange, but ironically kind of like an anime character.
Yeah, the “she’s a cyborg so race doesn’t matter” argument is pretty stupid because, atleast in regards to GITS, Motoko looked pretty much the same when she was a child, so her adult, cybernetic appearance is a pretty logical progression from then. And it just seems kind of strange that, assuming this is supposed to…
“I thought that Kusanagi had a caucasian shell in the original, given her bright skin, european features and blue eyes.
Right, because no japanese have “bright skin.” Her features are relatively ambiguous mixed in the original, and blue eyes... well, she’s a cyborg.
