I don’t think it’s fair to say that overall he has a bad draft record in the first round. He doesn’t have a great one either. I looked at it last week and while obviously there are names taken after the Celtics that look bad in retrospect, there’s a point at which you say, “ok, if people thought this guy was going to

There’s a point at which you say - these guys can’t ALL be writing beat-sweeteners. I mean, Dave McMenamin says some crazy shit about Cleveland to protect that turf, but he doesn’t need to be saying crazy shit about Boston, too.

This is definitely true of players. There are guys who make clear that they want their team to offer them THE MAX, or they walk. If their team offers them less than the max but also more than any other team can offer them under the salary cap, they’re insulted.

I’m not blaming George! He’s trying to get where he wants to be. But I bet if he resigns with OKC a bunch of GMs are going to be muttering “motherfucker”.

If I could have last year’s roster + Hayward and George, - whatever I’d need to move for George, and I believed I could win a title with Isaiah Thomas starting as my point guard on that team (defensive liabilities covered for, no problems with offensive fit [I have serious problem believing this]), I’d take it. Short

But they’re still a 50+ win team in an Eastern Conference that got a lot weaker in the past few days. If you’re the Celtics ownership, I’m not sure I’m sold on the idea of swinging for the fences, based on what’s available, either. They’re printing money and going deep into the playoffs NOW. Why not just draft and see?

Maybe. I think this new era of “the Celtics are fairly good but not title contenders and have the assets to supposedly get a lot better, though based on what’s on the board, probably not enough better to be title contenders” has blunted my emotions about the team’s moves and non-moves. Like, it’s all fine. I don’t

I don’t know how valuable that is, in the abstract, to OKC. (not shedding Oladipo, but a free max slot)

I’m not going to claim an understanding of cap mechanics, but I’ve read that the unexpectedly low cap fucked a bunch of teams in terms of their free agency plans. In particular I’ve seen it reported that the Celtics’ presumed plan to chase both Hayward and George worked better if it went in that order ... which

Windhorst tweeted that this deal confirms that Indy felt it was getting weak offers, which in turn suggests that George basically trashed his trade market by being so clear about wanting to go to LA.

I ... don’t quite get this deal for either team. Maybe I’m underestimating what George + Westbrook can do together, but I feel like OKC has made themselves a little better (with a hell of a lot of risk), and Indiana has made itself slightly worse (without getting much added value in terms of future prospects). Maybe

This was my thought. The guy’s comments were rude to the hostesses, perhaps to the event, and I’m not interested in excusing them.

His quads are a bit of an extreme case due to shape of how they overhang his knees, but a lot of powerlifters look like that. Being lean isn’t helpful for max strength, so while plenty (not all!) powerlifters try to not get fat, they also don’t try to get very lean unless they’re cutting to make weight for a

Well, I think the Ws offense is more complicated than that. I think it’s telling that the Warriors coaches, to hear them tell it (and I think the rotation data and plus/minus backs this up) thought Curry-without-Durant was a better look for them than Durant-without-Curry, because Curry kept things flowing better. I

The other guy and I seem to disagree, since he just responded to me disagreeing. Basically I agree with the start of his comment but not, as I interpret it, the end of his comment.

You could interpret “at the margins” that way, but he ended his comment with ‘I don’t think any team full of guys who make the all-star team or represent their country at the international level need a much more detailed game plan than “Go score more points/goals than the other team.”’, which is why I wrote my comment.

I disagree. For one thing, in basketball, there do seem to be coaches who are better at drawing up distinct plays out of stoppages, which I think is pretty valuable. For another, I think you can have better systems. The systems need the players, though; it’s interrelated. Look at the Warriors: Steve Kerr inherited a

The way Ainge carries himself with the public is definitely annoying. And it flusters me a bit that while I don’t think he’s been BAD at drafting, I think it’s the weaker part of his talent-acquisition skill set. I suspect one of two things:

In case you don’t know, Arnold fronts a fitness expo which includes all kinds of physique and strength competitions (including the second most prestigious bodybuilding and strongman events in the world) as well as exhibitions. And there are videos of him shouting encouragement at people going for world record lifts.
