Poor Lea Michelle. I had a (luckily) brief period of hair loss during menopause, and it can really fuck with your self-image. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Being from Boston does have a certain cachet, and my dad used to play it up quite a bit à la Hillary/Hilaria. My family comes from Boston, but we moved to the Midwest when I was an infant in the 60s. My mother lost her accent in the 70s, but my college professor father’s deepened and somehow shifted from a working

They already did try to solve the “mod problem” with Sims 3 by making it extremely difficult to get mods and custom content into your game and by intentionally breaking the game for mods with every patch - beyond the usual patch day issues modders still experience to the point that a lot of them gave up. This, a million times over. I’m hoping that the Sims team has learned from all their missteps with Sims 4 and is putting that energy into the development of Sims 5, but realistically I know that greed will win out in the end and it will probably turn out even worse. Oh, well, maybe Paralives will amount to something.

I’m pretty sure it came out that Nikki’s blackmailer was someone she went to school with and not Jeffree Star or Shane Dawson, as vile as they are.

When I was studying historical linguistics in college, I recall that the original settlers of New England and the South did indeed come from southern England, hence their similarity in accents and linguistic differences from later settlers from other places in England and elsewhere.

If that upsets you, you’re gonna LOVE what happens Colin’s story (not disagreeing with you, just what happens in his story is a LOT more icky (though I admittedly loved it when I read it back in the day and it was one of my favorites of the Bridgerton novels)).

I feel bad for her ex, though he’s probably feeling a bit like “bullet dodged” at this point.

I refuse to accept that he was ever young. Well, “young”.

I’m so sorry that happened to you. I left academia in the late 90s before finishing my doctorate because the thought of spending the rest of my life listening to overprivileged twats who thought liberal arts was the most important thing on the planet filled me with existential dread. I STILL can’t read “real”

Thank you so much for this comment! It’s been a game-changer for me. I’ve been reading these threads since 2012 and having to stop at some point because I’m only getting the same stories over and over again.

Or a black-eyed kid. Or both!

There was an article a few months back about how ghosts suddenly seem to be acting up and people are discovering for the first time that their apartments are haunted now that they’re home all the time. I think it was in The Atlantic? It was an interesting article at any rate.

They’re the same people who, when faced with flesh and blood victims of actual abusers, will look for every little reason they can find to blame the victim and excuse the abuser.

It’s worse if you’re from Europe. For the last few days - on top of the ads - a data protection notice that takes ages to load pops up every time you open a page and you have to click it away before you can continue.

I wasn’t a huge Chi Chi fan (also not a hater, just have other favorites), but with her and Lady Red gone so close to each other, I just feel gutted.

I think if he loses, it will be briefly very bad, but if he wins, it will be very bad for a very long time.

I remember a lot of victim-blaming and deflection at the time of the scandal. It’s sad that that narrative is still being pushed 30 years later.

Ugh, that podcast sounds really gross and victim-blamey. I always like Lords during her later acting career.

I haven’t figured out why he hasn’t bought another chair yet and left this one to his cat. That’s the obvious solution.
