The amount I'd be able to carry on public transit or walking? Easily, with a list.

oops

The times that I do grab breakfast at Dunkin Donuts or something when I'm rushing out the door, it takes way less time. I don't see how you can argue that it's not faster. It's SO much faster.

Meanwhile, I can do my weekly suburban shopping in a half hour, door to door.

No, I was just illustrating the fact that it's both much closer and much faster.

"I can walk/take a bus to a grocery with fresh food"

McD's is three blocks from my house, and I don't even need to get out of the car.

It's an unfortunate fact that for many poor people there are ample crappy chain places within walking distance, but no place to buy decent groceries.

What Rururr_Jururr said, plus your time spent shopping, your rate of spoilage, [edit: cleanup time,] etc. could make it more expensive on the whole.

Sounds like the meatless bread meatballs I ate by the loaf when I was going through puberty.

"tearing at flesh, ripping off pieces of leaves and roots, and crunching and grinding them between molars, as glands somewhere in the neck or face squirt a clear liquid that dissolves the stuff into a little ovoid bolus to slip down into an acid bath."

Turns out whores go to New Jersey.

Don't forget the part where he licks his balls.

"then make a joke about it."

They shied away from the (subverted) Christian themes in The Golden Compass.

I felt that way about The Golden Compass, which is even less trippy and esoteric, yet one of the things the book did so well was depicting how the girl learned how to interpret the compass over time, and it just didn't translate (or maybe they didn't really attempt it). Their relationships with their daemons were flat
