To be fair, the window where a truck is better isn’t going to be that big. A 4x4 truck will certainly have better clearance, but a big blizzard can still put down more snow than a stock truck will clear. Even lifted trucks and jeeps with mud tires heading up to the mountains near me aren’t going to do that well.

Most (all?) modern AC systems are based on electric compressors. When there’s an electrical load against the source, which is typically the alternator, the alternator will have to work harder to compensate for the phase change. This in turn will have a load against the motor.

This reminds me of the time when I was driving I-70 during a snowstorm and 2 pickup trucks went roaring past me... and within 2 or three miles I saw both of them spinning separately off the highway in (thankfully) single vehicle accidents. I laughed and laughed.
