As you mentioned you're paying for Luxury, but you're also paying for LOTS and LOTS of technology that your Vette doesnt have, you're paying for safety design that you wont get in a fiberglass tub. the list goes on. I'm not saying the price is worth it, but there is a reason for it.
FWIW, from California to Texas its a very common business to buy older Trucks in the US and import them to Mexico. The import laws for cars are a pain but for Trucks is next to nothing.
