My hunch is that $16k isn’t crazily out of line for a wedding and reception venue of that size (though I’d hope it included catering and an open bar). If that’s the atmosphere and aesthetic that some people want, it probably has little competition and might find a market.

So they are just turning this into a non-mobile event space?

“We are willing to let you pay for the changes on the bridge but will require certain additions to your ship as well...”

Seriously, I’m all for hating on billionaries, but as billionaire yachts go, this is pretty cool.

No, I’m frightened by:

This is before the proliferation of small concealable .380s and the like. I imagine a .25 ACP of that era was harder to control, less reliable, and with more expensive ammo.

I can’t imagine the grey market import fees to get this onto the ringworld from earth.

and what if the ringworld governor is like the dickbag in Maine and says “if it wasn’t certified originally to ringworld safety and emission standards you can’t register it here”

This came back recently, as many modern cars were fitted with a simple little “Eco” light on the dash that lit up when driving fuel efficiently and went dark when not. It’s not really any smarter than the fuel pacer either. Driving uphill? Light’s going out no matter how ginger you are with the throttle (while still

Check out Linus, Public, Tokyobikes. Middle of the road bikes, decent quality and very little fluff. $400-600 is today’s $250...

Interesting, when I was riding bikes as a kid, the bikes proved more durable than my bones. (mid 2000s)

When I was in the military, we literally would waste resources because we had to show we used our budget to avoid budget cuts. It was kind of stupid seeing people waste money in order to keep a budget they just admitted they don’t use entirely or responsibly.

Plus, the more fuel the equipment uses, the more logistical support they need. That fuel itself may have to be trucked in, requiring more fuel just to deliver the fuel.

Presumably ships and planes are the main culprits, but exactly this.

I’ll sidestep the politics and just say this: The US DoD is responsible for 7% of global emissions, and is the single largest producer of CO2. DoD investment in emission cutting measures will have meaningful impact on total global emissions and the availability of lower emissions technology to other organizations.

There is a little more info from this article in ‘The Drive’ :

That a very, um, unsophisticated view of US foreign policy. Feels like 2004 all over again.

The thing with Challengers is the owners REALLY like them. It’s kind of the Tommy Bahama of cars.

Back before the concept new Challenger was announced, I had a conversation with Ralph Gilles, then Dodge head stylist, over Dodge’s idiocy of the new 4-door Charger and how it had zero styling cues from the classic 2nd gen Charger. (Fixed from the 2nd gen 4-door Charger on.) After we got done at most staying civil to

Peloton is one of my clients and based on my experience working with them, none of this is surprising. Their back office has a high turnover rate and nobody seems to know what’s going on.

Peloton’s president, William Lynch, secured $105 million before the stock price declined by more than 85% from where it peaked last year.”
