I emailed CarMax, told them I was interested in a car, they brought it to me pulled behind a Mercedes Sprinter with a full office inside. I test drove it, agreed to buy, signed the paperwork inside the van (they never even set foot inside my house) and they drove away while I had a gently used 1 year old car in my

A Range Rover as a starter car? No, that’s a finisher car!

Exactly. As the grid becomes more carbon neutral, all the EV’s drawing power from it immediately become more carbon neutral.

Yup. THAT should be the headline here. It’s easy for people to dismiss Lucid as being too expensive - the Dream certainly is that. But they are showing that they can beat Tesla both at the top and bottom end of the product range they’ve decided they want to play in (for now). Here’s to them (and their design language)

There’s a reason Prii come with hilariously small wheels.

Regen is done at the motor. The brakes in the wheel are the same as regular, ICE-vehicle brakes.

Electric cars are so efficient that small differences in efficiency get noticed. In this case, the larger, heavier wheels combine with the higher rolling resistance of performance tires to drop that 10% or so.

It’s ok - I used to think regen braking always involved additional hardware at the wheels, too ;)

So... You do know that regenerative braking is done with the drive motors, located at the centerline of vehicle? There are no such thing as regen brakes that need to be packaged, unless you are talking about hub motors that Lucid does not use.

What are you talking about? “ space for regen brakes on that hub” There is no such thing as regen brakes that fit in a wheel hub. This car has two motors connected to the wheels through half shafts and a differential/gear box.  It doesn’t have hub motors.

Weight and drag are efficiency killers, though I’d say wheel width can be just as bad. A wide 19" can have the same effect as a narrow 21". But yeah, I’d probably try and knock it down to 18" with a little more sidewall just to help out the ride.

Eh, but on a 5000lb vehicle with 8-1000HP, I would like to have the biggest brakes possible.

People already made that choice with gas cars around 400 miles when the German tried to offer up diesels.

This EV won’t work for me because the commute to my job is 20 miles each way and once I get there they don’t give me enough money to buy this car.

I’ll be patiently waiting in the comments for someone to come say how this EV won’t work for them because their commute is 600 miles each way in the snow towing a 12,000lb trailer.

The best in my opinion is the decorative shag carpet circle in Nissan Cubes

On the same boat. I daily a mid-size 2 row SUV and already made the decision this is my last ICE car. Took over $60 to fill my tank the other day at costco, cheapest in town. Luckily, I ride the train to work and one tank for me last 3-4 weeks.

Same, the Rivian can’t get here soon enough. Seems like now is the time to vote with our wallets to prevent climate change.
