The batteries in modern EVs have a lot in common with batteries in phones. They share the same design and characteristics, and suffer from the same degradation issues. Most newer EVs have the slight advantage of having temperature management to lengthen life.

There is a similar superstition for skiing and snowboarding. It’s always, “two more runs, skip the last one”.

Ford is making some big bets on EV production, and they have the advantage (and the baggage) of an existing supplier base, facilities and workforce. The game changer next year is their facility in Cologne where they will be building a small car and CUV based on the VW EV architecture.

You’re right, my 2021 numbers were way off.

If Mach-E volume stays strong, and Ford is serious about pushing up Lightning production, Ford EVs will be half of Tesla sales in 2021 and will likely surpass them right around the time the CyberTruck starts deliveries.

I scratched my head too. Between the Mach-E and F-150 Lightning that means that Ford is on track to sell about 50% of the EV volume in 2021 as Tesla did in 2020.

This is a fantastic point. People buy Japanese cars in general, and Toyotas in particular because you are getting a damn near guarantee of 200k miles without major drama.

Somebody once told me
the waves were going to roll me
cuz’ I’m the roundest boat in the shed
I was looking kind of dumb
With two 11 inch guns
And a circular shape knocking sailers dead

Well the pitch is coming and they won't stop coming
Anytime there's waves or the crew starts gunning
Sure it made sense and it seemed real fun

Good call on the 4Runner. When you get dogs, kids and camping gear loaded up, that antique of a V6 seems at its absolute limit.

I totally agree on the Tacoma being undersprung for towing. After hauling a 4500lbs trailer, and seeing the back end sag, I added a suspension system with a 4th leaf in the rear. Just about everyone who tows regularly with a Tacoma ends up adding air bags or an “add-a-leaf” to get rid of back end squat.

The Tacoma TRD Pro. The suspension is great, and the aesthetic changes are fine, but what it really needs is a supercharger. The truck looks fast, and the suspension can handle speed. If only Toyota would give it the extra 70HP it deserves.

You just re-invented the Chinese social credit score.

You have inadvertently summarized most of American culture in three paragraphs.

With a few notable exceptions, these channels have always peddled garbage.

There is a not insignificant chance that the lovely commentators on this site will be alive to watch the end of our civilization. At very least, the fires, storms, water shortages and displaced populations we are seeing will only get worse through the duration of our lives. Whether someone correctly attributes these

The movie shows mass civil unrest and protests against conscription. I don’t know what they could have done to make it more on the nose.

I like to think that White Lotus was sold on the pitch, “Westworld, but without the robots”.

Eh. The Toyota Tax pays itself off when it comes time to sell though.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the rumors are true and we see a 3.5TT hybrid across the LC, 4Runner, Tundra and Tacoma. Having a powerful, efficient setup would take away the only big downside of owning a Toyota truck.

They seem to have rediscovered that there is room to be the “fun” Japanese brand, and it’s great to see some cool, attainable cars return to their lineup.
