The truth is, there are probably thousands of divorces being initiated or considered because people are fed up with their MAGA / QAnon spouses. If anything good can come out of this, I hope that it’s an example to these people that leaving your partner for having abhorrent views is OK.

On the plus side, there is now a reference point defining the minimum impact of FLOTUS initiatives. We have Nancy’s DARE measurably increasing drug use as a current worst case, Michelle’s “Let’s Move” lowering child obesity and increasing food availability to 9.5M people as a current best case, and Be Best safely

I was a tween when Fight Club came out, and I watched it with two gen Xers. It absolutely blew our minds.

SUVs / CUVs have been playing in the performance space for almost 20 years. A shrinking middle class, shrinking garage space and the constant evolution of “cool” means that a traditional Corvette will be fighting in a shrinking niche.

Based on the extremely light paper trail left on the internet from “Be Best”, the totality of the initiative comes down to a 5 page pamphlet on talking to your kids about internet usage and a word search. They didn’t even bother to make T-Shirts.

I’ve always assumed “My Summer Car” was the official game if Jalopnik.

I don’t hate it, but they pulled off the decision trick of making it look more CUV like by extending the hood, which sucks. For the sake of parking, navigating driveways and merging in bumper-to-bumper traffic, I wish hoods were built around engine profile, not “design language”.

I’ve spent most of my career working for brands that most of you have in your home. What I’ve picked up along this journey is that a brand needs a consistent voice. It must evolve over time, but undercutting brand heritage is a sign of desperation.

I really want to know how people react to it. Does it turn heads at the gas station? Do people take pictures of you at the Del Taco takeout window? Basically: does it elicit smiles and marriage proposals... or does it blend into t he background like a $200k fart in the wind?

I tend to agree with you. If it was playing against the F-Pace, Cayanne, Lavante and Range Rover I could see it as a cool alternative option for people that want to stand out in the Costco parking lot. At over $200K, it is competing for the rare air occupied by the Urus, Bentayaga and G63.

I’m really excited about more competition in the market, and I hope this is the beginning of real EV growth that isn’t centered around Tesla. It’s nice that Teslas were a hit in San Francisco and Shenzhen, but it will be transformative when they are common in places like Omaha and Milwaukee.

I was just going to start taking a dryer with me camping.

Some of these companies have been pretty direct with employees about using their work phone location to verify where they are.

I’ve seen two approaches. Companies that are focused on moving fully remote are posting their roles at one rate, companies that are still dipping their toes in the water are posting roles with the disclaimer “Salary will be adjusted based on cost of living at primary address”.

I keep churning on the same question over and over. If Trump tries to steal the election what will “we” do, and what will I do.

I take some small solace in the idea that he is afraid. A Trump assured of victory would want to be with his cronies to gloat. Instead, he is creating a modern day Fuhrer Bunker to hide from uncertainty he can no longer deny.

You’re a Jalopnik commentator, which is arguably the most noble and respected part of our society.

The vehicle you’re describing exists, and it’s called the Chevy Astro. They are available with all wheel drive, they have great visibility, a sliding door, and seats befitting your comfort loving parents. If you really feel inclined to do so, you could absolutely add long travel suspension.

In 30 years, most boomers will be dead and Gen X will be in their 80s. Their grand children will be taking these things to donate at the Good Will.

You are making a totally fair point, and you’ve also gotten to the heart of the appeal.
