Portlander checking in: I’m really happy that Ted showed his face last night and got a little bit of first hand experience with what’s going on in front of the Justice Center. It would have been great to see him out there 55 nights ago, but better late the never.

On this budget, and with the desire for some reliability, I’d suggest a Gen 1 or Gen 3 Toyota MR2. Nice examples are available in this price range, and by all accounts they’re fun to drive.

I’ve been teaching people to drive stick in 4-lo. They aren’t going over 30, but can still get up to 6th. As a bonus, they learn the basics of off-roading.

I think they would be targeting a different market then the mini-vans you mentioned. I’m thinking more of something to target the buyers who would otherwise be spending $20-50k on an element, Eurovan or Mercedes Metro to have something more lifestyle and image oriented,

Imagine yourself as a shy 25 year old programmer. After taxes, you’re making $850 a day. You’ve been forced to work from home, and your usual weekly game night has been cancelled since March. You feel so lonely.

Mitsubishi needs one US market car that people love. They had it with the Evo, and before that with the 3000GT and the eclipse.

This seems on par with what Prinsu, Victory 4x4, RhinoRack and Yakima have been offering for years. ARB makes great stuff, but it doesn’t seem to have much in terms of innovation.

I’ve lived in Portland for 9 years, and I’ve been out at these protests more than a handful of times. Donald Trump fucked up when he sent his goons here. A week ago, protests were winding down, and the “hardcore” element of protestors was mostly seen as a nuisance.

I know I’m an outlier (what Robin Williams called a “Volvo with a Gun rack”), but I’ve been out in Portland as part of the BLM protests more than a hand full of times. I also own, use and enjoy guns.

Those hats were a delight.

Sigh, I’ll pour one out for Ghostwriter. Truly a show taken before its time.

I’ll take mine on Ko2s, white lettering out please.

I know “cool” is a relative term, but if we’re talking since the 80s I’d add the Hurricane, Safari, Escalade, H3 Alpha, XLR, Sky Redline, SS and Saab 9-5 aero.

For bad and for good, those days are gone. The number of middle class jobs left for people without a skilled trade or college degree is heading to none.

The chicken tax only applies to pickups and cargo vans. You’re in the clear with an SUV that has back seats.

Thank you for saying this. 12 years after YouTube became an entertainment mainstay and Netflix pivoted to being first and foremost a streaming service, the TV networks are still fucking the concept to pieces.

I’m sure there will be lots of comments asking, “Who would want this?” The answer is people who want to have something different, but don’t have the money for a true exotic. I expect to see lots of these in Palo Alto.

Jeeps are nice, but they tend to be overpriced and unreliable (especially used). If you want something reliable that will will retain its value, I’d put the Toyota Tacoma and 4Runner at the top of the list.

In 1999, I was on a 737 landing in 60MPH winds in Cincinnati. It took three passes before the plane could land, and on the third pass, people were crying, praying, puking and peeing themselves.

There is a coordinated push right now on 4chan’s /pol to get black people to hate Jews. This push is being executed through hundreds of sock puppet twitter accounts pretending to be black people. I don’t know what pushed Nick into this line of thinking, but there’s a decent chance that it’s coming from /pol.
